Antoine Semenyo has etched his name in Ghanaian football history as the first Ghanaian to be named in the Professional Footballers’ Association (PFA) Premier League Team of the Year.

The recognition caps off an impressive season for the forward, who impressed many with his performances for Manchester City throughout the campaign.

Semenyo wasted no time making his mark. He made his debut for the club on January 10, 2026, in a stunning 10-1 FA Cup thrashing of Exeter City. The forward found the net in the 54th minute, set up another goal in the 49th, and walked away with the Man of the Match award.

He followed that up just three days later with another standout display, this time against Newcastle United in the first leg of the EFL Cup semi-final. Semenyo netted twice as City won 2-0, though one of his goals was later disallowed by VAR after Erling Haaland was flagged offside for obstructing goalkeeper Nick Pope.

Those performances set the tone for what turned out to be a memorable period at Manchester City. With his pace, physicality and directness, Semenyo quickly established himself as a player who could turn games on their head.

His place in the PFA Team of the Year puts him in the same bracket as top Premier League performers like Erling Haaland and Igor Thiago. For Ghana, it marks a proud and historic milestone in the country’s footballing story.
