Ghanaian singer Moliy has made history by becoming the first Ghanaian artist to receive a nomination at the American Music Awards (AMAs). The nomination is for the 2026 edition of the awards.

She is up for the Best Afrobeats Artiste category, where she will compete against some of the biggest names on the continent. Her fellow nominees include South Africa’s Tyla and Nigerian superstars Burna Boy, Wizkid, and Rema. The ceremony is set to take place on May 25.

Moliy has built her reputation through a unique sound that blends different music styles, and she has been growing a strong fanbase outside Africa for some time now.

This AMA nomination is not her only recent win on the world stage. Her hit song “Shake It To The Max (FLY) – Remix” earned her the Hit Maker of the Year award at Billboard Africa. She also picked up the World Artiste of the Year award at the 2026 iHeartRadio Music Awards, where she beat strong competition from Nigeria’s Ayra Starr, South Africa’s Tyla, China’s Jackson Wang, and Japanese group JO1. At the same ceremony, she also received a nomination for Best New Artiste Hip Hop, an award that eventually went to American rapper Real Boston Richey.

Back home, the love for Moliy is just as strong. “Shake It To The Max” is among the songs nominated for the Popular Song of the Year at the 2026 Telecel Ghana Music Awards, which is scheduled for May 9.

It has clearly been a remarkable run for the Ghanaian singer, and her latest AMA nomination only adds to a growing list of achievements that are putting Ghana firmly on the global music map.
