Members of Parliament are now taking home about GH¢60,000 a month in basic salary alone, according to JoyNews Research and Data Analyst, Caleb Ziblim.

Speaking on the matter, Ziblim explained that this figure excludes any allowances MPs receive, meaning their total monthly earnings could be much higher.

He said the new amount comes from a fresh salary structure approved for MPs, ministers and other public office holders, which took effect from 2025.

According to him, MPs and ministers were earning around GH¢30,000 a month for about four years, up until 2024. That changed after Parliament approved an adjustment, effectively doubling salaries from 2025 onward.

“About GH¢30,000 four years ago, up to 2024. After that, there was an adjustment, and now the new salary structure means the basic salary is about GH¢60,000 every month,” he said.

He stressed that this figure is strictly the basic salary, without allowances added.

“That’s without the allowances. So that’s about double,” he noted.

Ziblim made these remarks while explaining why compensation costs at the Presidency have risen sharply between 2023 and 2026, despite government trimming the number of appointees.

He suggested the increase — from GH¢100 million to GH¢248 million — is likely linked to the new salary structure now being applied.

“We’re assuming the jump from 100 million to 248 million is because the President is now using the new, approved salary structure passed by Parliament. That could explain the increase,” he said.
