Colombian pop superstar Shakira has revealed she will perform the official song for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, teaming up with Afrobeats giant Burna Boy for the much-anticipated track.
Shakira shared a one-minute teaser video on Thursday, filmed at the iconic Maracaná Stadium in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In the clip, she appears on the pitch surrounded by dancers, singing the lines: “Here in this place / You belong” and “What broke you once / Made you strong,” with a male voice joining her in harmony.
She captioned the post: “From Maracaná Stadium, here is ‘Dai Dai,’ the FIFA World Cup Official Song 2026,” confirming Burna Boy’s involvement in the project. The full song is set to be released on May 14.
This is not Shakira’s first time at the World Cup stage. Football fans will remember her smash hit “Waka Waka (This Time For Africa),” which served as the official anthem for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa and went on to become one of the best-selling World Cup songs in history.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup kicks off on June 11, with the opening match between Mexico and South Africa at the legendary Azteca Stadium in Mexico City. The tournament wraps up with the final on July 19 at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, New Jersey.
Meanwhile, Shakira’s “Dai Dai” is a separate release from Coca-Cola’s official World Cup anthem, which is a fresh version of Van Halen’s classic rock hit “Jump.” That track brings together Colombian reggaeton star J Balvin, rock drummer Travis Barker, singer Amber Mark, and legendary guitarist Steve Vai.
J Balvin, who wrote a brand new Spanish verse for the song, told the Associated Press that his goal was to inject Latin energy and a love for football into a track that was not originally written with the sport in mind. He described the production sound as “Brazilian funk with hard strings, kind of like hip-hop.”
With two major anthems now confirmed for the tournament, excitement around the 2026 World Cup — co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico — continues to build ahead of the June kickoff.
