Nigerian vocal powerhouse Waje (Aituaje Iruobe) is setting the record straight on her romantic life and what she expects in a partner. The popular singer recently revealed she would not consider marrying a “broke” man, citing her age and life stage as the main reasons.
During an appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast, the 45-year-old mother-of-one explained that she is past the phase of “building” a relationship from the ground up and no longer has patience for it.
Waje was direct about her criteria, stating, “I can’t marry someone who is not successful, and here’s why: first of all, I’m not in my 20’s, so we are not growing together.”
She emphasized that her partner must be able to inspire her, adding, “A man leads; he leads by selling aspirations to me. I have to aspire to see him lead. And if he can’t inspire me to grow, we can’t be partners. So, success is part of it. Faith and emotional intelligence are also part of it.”
Additionally, Waje ruled out dating younger men, believing the age difference would cause friction. “We will have issues,” she predicted. “I’m pragmatic… I would be treating him like my child. He would hate me.”
