Promoting Healthy Living and Stronger Alumni Connections
The Amanfoɔ Ashanti Open reflects the association’s commitment to encouraging healthier lifestyles and stronger bonds among its members.
Regular physical activity is an important part of maintaining good health, and the event provides a convenient opportunity for old boys to participate in sports, stay active and appreciate the benefits of recreation. Activities such as lawn tennis and table tennis promote physical fitness, while board games encourage concentration, strategic thinking and friendly interaction.
Equally important is the opportunity for networking. By bringing together old boys from different professional backgrounds, generations and walks of life, the event creates an environment where members can exchange ideas, establish new connections and strengthen the spirit of unity that defines the Amanfoɔ community.
The inclusion of family-oriented activities also reinforces the importance of building a welcoming alumni community where fellowship extends beyond formal association meetings and professional engagements.
A Brief History of Prempeh College and Amanfoɔ
Prempeh College is a historic boys’ secondary school located in Kumasi in Ghana’s Ashanti Region. Established in 1949, the school was founded through a partnership involving the Asanteman Council, the British colonial administration, the Methodist Church and the Presbyterian Church. It was named after Asantehene Otumfuo Sir Osei Tutu Agyeman Prempeh II, reflecting its close historical association with the Asante Kingdom.
Over the decades, Prempeh College has developed a strong reputation for academic achievement, discipline, leadership and sporting excellence. Its graduates, known as old boys or Amanfoɔ, have contributed to various fields, including business, public service, education, medicine and other professions in Ghana and beyond.
The Prempeh College Old Students’ Association, widely known as Amanfoɔ, serves as a platform through which former students maintain their connection with the school, support its development and preserve the traditions and values established during their years on campus.
Through alumni gatherings, social initiatives, professional engagements and other activities, the association provides opportunities for old boys to reconnect, mentor younger generations and contribute to the continued growth of their alma mater.
Events such as the Amanfoɔ Ashanti Open extend this tradition by using sports and recreation to bring members together in a relaxed atmosphere, fostering unity, friendship and a shared sense of belonging.
