Nigerian music heavyweight Olamide has weighed in on the long-running “Greatest of All Time” debate in Afrobeats, declaring fellow star Wizkid as the genre’s finest talent after the legendary Fela Kuti.
The “YBNL” boss made the highly-debated statement while reflecting on his history of successful collaborations with the Grammy-nominated artist during a press conference in Canada on November 13, 2025.
“I am blessed to have worked with Wizkid on several occasions. You know, Wizkid is the greatest Afrobeats artiste after Fela,” Olamide stated.
Olamide clarified that his work with Wizkid was born out of genuine musical chemistry, rather than a calculated career move.
He emphasized that their joint tracks were a result of natural harmony between the two hitmakers.
Olamide’s high-profile endorsement has instantly reignited the heated discussions across social media about who truly holds the crown in modern Afrobeats.
This is not the first time a major artist has laid claim to a superior status:
– Burna Boy recently asserted his own dominance, claiming that Fela Kuti is the only musician greater than himself.
– Davido has frequently referred to himself as the “King of Afrobeats.”
The perennial rivalry between the fan bases of Wizkid, Davido, and Burna Boy continues to make the title of the greatest Afrobeats artiste one of the most hotly discussed topics in African and global music today.
What do you think? Who is the greatest Afrobeats artist after Fela Kuti?
