Dr. Emmmanuel Osei Boateng, founder of OB Foundation, a former student leader of KNUST, and a member of KNUST Alumni Council, has donated five brand new Lenovo laptops to support the university’s Support One Needy Student with One Laptop (SONSOL) initiative.
The laptops were presented to the Vice Chancellor of KNUST as part of an initiative to close the digital gap for less privileged students.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the former NPP parliamentary candidate for Ahafo Ano South East constituency, Dr. Emmmanuel Osei Boateng expressed concern over the challenges underprivileged students continue to face on campus and assured that his foundation remains steadfast in its mission to support their education.
“I am deeply moved by the challenges faced by students from deprived backgrounds, and I wholeheartedly support this great initiative by donating these laptops to help these students in their academic pursuits,” he said.
Professor (Mrs.) Rita Akosua Dickson, the Vice-Chancellor, lauded the donation, calling it a much-needed and meaningful contribution to the university.
“In this technological era, it is essential that students are equipped with the tools they need to thrive. This support will significantly influence their academic success, especially in these financially challenging times,” she said.
Professor Dickson noted that the support was timely and emphasized its vital role in advancing equity and academic excellence within higher education.
Since 2019, Dr. Emmanuel Osei Boateng, through his foundation, has been making a significant impact across various communities in the Ashanti Region. Notably, during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, he provided critical support by donating 20,000 PPEs to health care facilities, including St. Edward Hospital in Adugyama and Pokukrom Clinic.
